Super Paper Mario: Saffron & Dyllis Super Show #34: Couple's Cake

Couple's Cake is made from SNOW BUNNY and BERRY SNOW BUNNY

Guess we're doing it, guess we're combining the apple & rose ice cream with the toothpaste peppermint one.

****

Actually this was nowhere near as bad as I thought? The flavours didn't clash that badly and they just plain tasted better when im not trying to scrape it off a plate with leaves and currants. The peppermint is all round superior, with a smoother texture and a crisp minty flavour. I should make it again, but with a dark chocolate ripple sometime.

Super Paper Mario: Saffron & Dyllis Super Show #33: Berry Snow Bunny

Berry Snow Bunny is made from SNOW BUNNY and PINK APPLE

Pink apple? This is prettymuch a re-colour of the snow bunny, so we can do ice cream again but in a different flavour. I've got apple cordial and rose syrup, i think thats the pink apple-est thing I can think of!

So since these are already sweetened syrups, we can just bang it all straight in the ice cream maker no need to dissolve some sugar.

Uhoh... i think taking too long to pour in the syrups and start the machine had let the cream freeze too fast and its gone a bit lumpy. Either that or the apple cordial has curdled the cream a bit? It should be fine, but it might be a bit more textured than we wanted it.

In it goes to the freezer... then my mums visiting for dinner so i'll make her try her hand at scooping it out and shaping the bunnies!

***

The texture on this one wasn't as smooth as the peppermint, but the flavour went better with the decorations, for what its worth. Who's the better ice cream scooper, me or mum? You decide. But don't tell me because I don't care.

Super Paper Mario: Saffron & Dyllis Super Show #32: Snow Bunny

Snow Bunny is made from TURTLEY LEAF and ICE STORM

An obvious choice here: ice cream! We're going to make a white peppermint flavour and the turtley leaf will be the fresh mint leaves on the decorations.

For this one we'll need to sweeten the cream ourselves, so im going to heat the cream with some caster sugar, and add the flavouring in here too.

Then we slam it in my mini ice cream maker (that we prepared in the freezer) btw i have a mini ice cream maker, its grand.

When it's done churning it needs to go in the freezer to finish freezing. I've put it in a tub so that its hopefully a bit easier to scoop.

Ice creams frozen now, and I miraculously managed to find a frozen fruit mix that contains blackcurrants, as well as some fresh mint so we have pretty bang-on eyes and ears.

***

This is one of those life skills I kinda never really thought I needed to train for... but I do not know how to scoop ice cream. I've tried to make an approximation of a snow bunny shape and decorated it. anyway the good news is, the ice cream itself is quite nice. The peppermint is clearly there but you can also taste the fresh cream quite a lot. It goes well with the mint leaves obviously but it does not go well at all with the blackcurrants, maybe use choc chips instead. Or just have a bowl of ice cream.

Super Paper Mario: Saffron & Dyllis Super Show #31: Fruit Parfait

Fruit Parfait is made from PEACHY PEACH and SNOW CONE

So I never really knew what a parfait exactly is and had to do my research. Apparently in france its some sort of ice cream slab, but in america and asia its a layered dessert with yogurt, fruit and granola? I don't really feel like doing any more crushed ice nonsense so i thought i'd forgo the SNOW CONE and instead try that layered yogurt dessert approach. Also, instead of granola I thought id just try some weird cereal that sounded nice tbh.

So we're chopping up some PEACHY PEACH into smaller chunks, dicing the cereal and some glace cherries as well.

Maybe i should have gone for a thicker yogurt, its not gonna appear that layered i guess...but you get the idea.

****

Tastes delicious! Like ok it didnt blow my mind or anything but I really like tinned peaches and yogurt I guess. Good things and good combo. The cereal I could give or take, it doesn't keep its crunch as well as granola/oats probably would but the blueberry filling and chopped cherries go really well and add a burst of sweetness. Took the lazier approach to this recipe and i have no regrets.

Super Paper Mario: Saffron & Dyllis Super Show #30: Snow Cone

Snow Cone is made with ICE STORM

We've got ice. (and raspberry syrup)

We've got storm. well this is the best I can do anyway. this machine isnt really ideal for ice but idk, thought id try it.

Its ground the ice up nice and fine. I have to do it in really small batches and keep emptying it out so it can get to the big chunks. i dont want it to melt while im doing it so thisll probably do.

**

Annoyingly the ice was ground up so fine that it kinda started refreezing into bigger chunks again, but the syrup was really nice.

Super Paper Mario: Saffron & Dyllis Super Show #29: Fruity Punch

Fruity Punch is made from KEEL MANGO and PEACHY PEACH

I've got half a can of peach slices in grape juice to finish up, and a mango thats as ripe as its ever gonna be, borderline expired really. Seems perfect. I'll also throw in an apple and some cherries to brighten it up a bit and make it look slightly like the sprite,

This is so soft its a bit tricky, ive cut off any bruised brown bits as well and chopped it into sortof-cubes.

So to me this recipe definitely looks like a fruit salad rather than a punch drink, but i think im gonna "punch" it up a bit with some rum!

***

Yeah its a perfectly OK fruit salad. The mango was pretty bland and the dry crispyness of the apple didnt really help or harm it. A good way to use up fruit before it goes off but I guess it still hinges on really good quality ingredients.

Super Paper Mario: Saffron & Dyllis Super Show #28: Love Pudding

Love Pudding is made from BIG EGG and LOVELY CHOCOLATE

So we've still got a few of the lovely chocolates left, and its gotta be something egg based so how about a steamed egg/custard pudding?

So I followed a recipe for "chinese style" egg pudding, seems nice and straightforward. We dissolve some sugar into a bit of hot water first, then take it off the heat and stir in milk and beaten eggs, and ill add a bit of vanilla flavouring as well.

Straining the mixture as we pour it into the cups. I want to create as much of a tower shape as I can, so I'll try this mug and hope for the best. And i'll pour the rest in some ramekins.

Covered these up with something heatproof... now, mugs a bit tall for the steamer...

So we're improvising and adapting..

After 15mins it looks like its worked... seems kinda jelly-like... But will it come out?

*****

Oh heck yeah look at that! We made a pudding! Much like the heartful cake im kind of amazed it worked at all, let alone be such a delicious hot, fresh and flavourful dessert. It not might be restaurant quality in its shape and texture, but as long as its gone roughly right its a basically perfect dessert that i'd definitely do again.
