Super Paper Mario: Saffron & Dyllis Super Show #85: Megaton Dinner

Megaton Dinner is made from a POW block

Another strange and challenging one. But as usual I have A CUNNING PLAN. And i'm feeling particularly optimistic about this one in spite of it being something ive never cooked before: SPAM MUSUBI. Hear me out...

OK um first question and its a good start... how do you get this shit out of the can?? it took me 2 knives and some spiking stress levels but i finally managed to get it out in one piece.

I slice it up, season it with soy sauce and teriyaki sauce and fry it. I hope its not a crime to use my tamagoyaki pan for this but its just a really convenient size and shape. And look how good it looks!?

Meanwhile i fluff the steamed sushi rice and season it with salt and a mirin mix.

Now here's a weird tip I read online: wash out the spam container and reuse it to mould the rice!

So for this one im going to try and make like, a spam sandwich with the rice. Considering how hard it was to get the meat out of the can im not looking forward to this. I could always cut a hole in the bottom though I suppose.

it was a little rough but we got it, now I cut a strip of the sushi nori and wrap it around the rice.

now we scavenge some sauce and leftover vegetables and carefully try to cut letters out of them yes thats right we're going ALL IN for this one.

yassss this is working! Now I don't want to ruin it but lets try flipping on its side and saucing it up with something, i've got some mango sriracha handy.

*****

Yesss I think I nailed this one. I love it. And guess what? Turns out spam musubi is delicious!

Super Paper Mario: Saffron & Dyllis Super Show #84: Meteor Meal

Meteor Meal is made from a SHOOTING STAR

Originally I was thinking maybe i could make star shaped crackers or dough balls... but then I guess you could say the stars aligned when I saw these star shaped tortilla crisps in the supermarket! All thats left to do really is assemble!

****
How good is that!? the tortilla chips are nice, quite salty, and the shape isnt really that useful for staying together and picking up a chunky salsa. The salsa is quite oniony, the cheese is decent, together they're alright... maybe a hot homemade dip would have been better BUT THIS WAS WAY EASIER

Super Paper Mario: Saffron & Dyllis Super Show #83: Dyllis Deluxe

Dyllis Deluxe is made from SHROOM STEAK and GORGEOUS STEAK

The last of these monstrous dyllis recipes. We've got more of the gorgeous steak, which of course was a power steak with a "hamburger inspired" beef and onion gravy, and then the shroom steak, which was a literal store bought steak made out of mushrooms. Then we've got the rest of the frozen sprouts and an egg to make up the garnish.

This time we're tenderising the big power steak, since the other one in this pack was chewy as hell. I've also seasoned it with more salt and pepper.

Aww they're spooning! I think they might be more than pan-mates.

I'll microwave these while things are frying to get them thawed, sprouts are quite dense and I don't want them crispy on the outside and cold on the inside. And yeah this came with bacon bits too, bonus stuff I guess, don't over think it.

I decided to try and get more height so i've sawn the steak up a bit and stacked it!

While the steak rests we can quickly crisp this up in the pan! and since it's microwaved it wont take ages while the steak goes cold

Oh, you thought that was all I was doing? I was also frying an egg on the sly, and now we're carving out a yolk for the garnish, eh you'll see... And let's not forget the gravy!

****

After this photo i chopped the whole meal in half and put half of it in the fridge because its way too much!! But yeah tenderising the steak made a bit of difference as I preferred this to the gorgeous steak recipe. Very rich, smoky and decadent, perhaps too many flavours? But I enjoyed it.

Super Paper Mario: Saffron & Dyllis Super Show #82: Dyllis Special

Dyllis Special is made from ROAST SHROOM DISH and FRUITY HAMBURGER

We have 'em ready, thanks to prior planning, the fruity burger from #56 and the roast shrooms from #50.

All we really need to do is reheat everything (using a grill cause we dont want soggy breadcrumb) and assemble with the help of some toothpicks

****

I do feel a little silly to be honest.

Super Paper Mario: Saffron & Dyllis Super Show #81: Dyllis Dinner

Dyllis dinner is made from FRIED SHROOM PLATE and MEAT PASTA DISH

Time for another silly looking dinner. We've got out meat pasta dish leftovers from #63, and some fresh mushrooms to fry and the standard garnish.

Frying the mushrooms with a bit of oil and paprika salt, probably wont need any more pepper because the meat pasta dish is pepper city

Might as well heat up the other veg this way.

Done all this while microwaving the leftovers. I don't think this pasta is going to hold shape like the ragu at all so we'll just have a decorated splat.

*****

The ingredients went really well together tbh. Yes even the mushrooms. but its a repeat of the meat pasta dish with extra faff.

Super Paper Mario: Saffron & Dyllis Super Show #80: Dyllis Lunch

Dyllis Lunch is made from FRIED SHROOM PLATE and SPAGHETTI PLATE

A recipe made from 2 already cooked meals. If you haven't mastered time travel you'll just have to plan accordingly. Behold! (rehold?) the fried shroom plate from #49 !

And some leftover spaghetti ragu from #62. I'm going to see if i can make it tall by splatting it on a plate like this. Also some sprouts from my freezer are here.

LMAO that actually worked lets go
***

Not bad, the two recipes go just fine together, but ultimately they're only really as good as the spaghetti ragu, sinc everything else is just an accessory really. So yeah it was fine.

Super Paper Mario: Saffron & Dyllis Super Show #79: Dyllis Breakfast

Dyllis Breakfast is made from SHROOM SHAKE and SPICY SOUP

We've got the spicy soup we made earlier, for the shroom shake i've acquired a really big mushroom that I'm going to grill, and then we have some teriyaki sauce and a single brussel sprout for the uh.. garnish. You'll see

Brushed it with oil, looks like its grilling up nicely

When its nearly done i just heat the soup up in the microwave, and assemble!

***

It's alright yeah. The teriyaki sauce goes well with the mushroom, but its sort of stupid to have a giant mushroom in a soup. Do I eat it with a knife and a fork AND a spoon? Foolish.

Super Paper Mario: Saffron & Dyllis Super Show #78: Koopa Pilaf

Koopa Pilaf is made from TURTLEY LEAF and HORSETAIL

For the horsetail we've got some more asparagus, and then for the leaf I want to make it a focal point again, so I though an indian style mint rice! I found a nice recipe online to work with so we've got fresh mint, coriander, green chilli, garlic, ginger, and pistacio nuts! And forgot to picture but also some grated coconut (i had desiccated coconut in my cupboard) and lemon juice. Oh and the rocket and tomatoes are just for garnish at the end!

Oh and gotta raid the spice boxes for a ton of spices!

Yeah im reasonably well kitted out for this. Got curry leaves, cloves, cumin seed, star anise and cardamom. Starting it in the proper indian style by frying the spices a bit first.

meanwhile ive roughly chopped the paste ingredients to get them started and then ill blend them: the green chilli, desiccated coconut,  ginger, garlic, coriander and mint

Yeah this looks pasted enough! And the asparagus and pistachio nuts can get in the pan next to brown.

if ur wondering why im using my tamagoyaki pan the answer is... idk its just really nice isnt it

Now we add the mint paste and let me tell you this smells and looks fuckin incredible! since i didnt have any whole cinnamon ive added a pinch of powder at the end and a squeeze of lemon juice.

now we measure out a decent batch of rice, add everything from the pan and some water so now it looks like SLUUUDGE (but it still smells incredible)

And after 25 mins in the steamer and a toss around with a fork its done!

*****

Soo aromatic and with a ton of depth to the flavour! It is still ultimately more of a side dish, so its a little dry and doesn't pack a punch, though the pistachio and asparagus pairs really well with a nice burst of flavour. But I would recommend rather than a rocket garnish maybe pair it with a rich curry, some smoky lamb meatballs or even just some more finely diced tomatoes.
