Super Paper Mario: Saffron & Dyllis Super Show #91: Odd Dinner

We've done fried shrooms and we can do them again... and for the poison... i'm picking red wine today. Not doubling up on mushrooms but we've got a big bunch of chestnut mushrooms.

For the unusual look of the sprite we need something black... now, ive never been a fan of mushrooms yet i've been shrooming it up all over this challenge. However I DO draw the line at olives, I can't stomach them, I really cant, so instead of the obvious choice of black olives, im going to do some black beans, and a dome of rice underneath. I've soaked the beans and then steamed them, and a batch of medium grain rice well in advance.

chopping some onions, garlic, and then just halving the mushrooms cause i kinda want them to be chunky and noticeable.

Then we add a good amount of red wine, a little splash of balsamic vinegar (maybe not necessary? idk) and plenty of pepper! we love pepper in this house.

And then, my weird go-to sauce trick, some instant gravy.. it adds some salt and umami but it also thickens up the sauce real good.

NOW to add a little class, im stuffing the beans and rice in a little container, and microwaving them because i prepared them earlier today so they're cold.. then we can turn it upside down and we'll have a... an odd dinner...

Maybe im just friggin starving but this was nice yeah. I know this is sort of a loose interpretation of the dish, but i think it makes a somewhat balanced and credible meal. Edible and credible.

Super Paper Mario: Saffron & Dyllis Super Show #90: Dyllis Dynamite

 Dyllis Dynamite is made from EGG BOMB and DYLLIS BREAKFAST

OK so we need to break this down a bit. We still have some EGG BOMB but I don't have any dyllis breakfast left, which was made from leftover SPICY SOUP and SHROOM SHAKE. Complicated. But here's what we're gonna do: Make a fresh spicy ramen soup with mushrooms and the leftover devilled eggs.

Making a soup base with seaweed, veg stock, grated ginger, miso paste, and some szechuan spicy hotpot paste. What, you think im just trying to use up a bunch of leftover ingredients in my cupboards? Well... :)

Then we add in the sliced mushrooms, a squeeze of lemon and some soy sauce. And then we just let it cook for a while.

No I didn't eat the whole fresh chillis, that szechuan pepper paste is already no joke. Nice flavours, definitely lived up to being called dynamite. Conventional ramen toppings probably would have been even better though, like some barbecue pork, surimi, bamboo shoots, spring onions etc.

Super Paper Mario: Saffron & Dyllis Super Show #89: Egg Bomb

 Egg Bomb is made from BIG EGG and FIRE BURST

Sounds like we've got to make some eggs, but hot! Got a plan for that. It starts with hard-boiling some eggs.

Halving them and removing the yolk.

then we mix the yolks with a couple tablespoon of mayo, a generous portion of chopped chillis (thats our fire burst baby!) a tiny drizzle of olive oil and teaspoon of mustard (i've got a jar of welsh mustard with leek)

Smash it all up into a paste.

And then i'm stuffing these back in the yolk hole, spicy devilled eggs! Little eggy hand grenades. You can pipe them like icing if you want to be fancy, but ive just spooned them in cause its my dinner first and your entertainment second. Last step is a pinch of paprika on them to add a lil more flavour and colour.

You know, I've never made devilled eggs before! I've always liked them, never thought to make them. Really like these, super delicious, not even that spicy somehow so I guess we could have gone even harder maybe doubled down with some hot sauce. Pleased with how easy it was in the end. Wouldn't throw at my enemies, would hog them all for myself.

Well we found a carton of mushroom just like in the sprite, and then we will simply add some SPICY (chopped chillis)

Added two heaped teaspoonfuls of chopped chilli, what could go wrong.

and then we pop it in the microwave to warm up... tick tick tick

Not bad honestly, quite hot but not overwhelmingly so, and i think the heat and vinegary-ness of the preserved chilli made this a lil' better than just mushroomwater. Good in an emergency, I suppose... 

Super Paper Mario: Saffron & Dyllis Super Show #87: Space Food

The future is here, TODAY and we're taking these mushrooms INTO SPACE

We're not making the mistake of working with raw mushrooms again, lets fry these bad bois up along with some garlic and onion, white truffle oil and white wine.

Then we put them in the chopper capsule with parsley, dill and cream cheese. I should have just mixed the cheese in after though tbh, it just clogged up the chopper unnecessarily. Foolish.

I wanna try and get that bar/log shape from the sprite somehow, so im going to let it cool/set in a tub next to a rectangular box to hopefully squish it into shape.

Here's the ice storm component, AKA the fridge.

Here it is all up on the most scifi looking crackers I could find. Looking like wet cement. I like the cream cheese and herby components but I dislike the mushroom flavour. I cant fault the execution though, like I got the mushroom sludge log I wanted. I guess.

Super Paper Mario: Saffron & Dyllis Super Show #86: Luxurious Set

We're really stacking recipes here. So this is meat pasta dish + fried mushrooms + fried mushrooms. I've saved some meat pasta dish then, and based on the graphic i have a cute idea for this.. turning all these leftovers into a frittata!

More fried mushrooms for us.

And then heating up the rest of the pasta dish, and some added tomatoes for colour.

While thats all going I gotta quickly break 3 eggs and add most of it into the pan to make the first "layer"

Ugh this is gonna stick so baddd, i should have probably used much more oil and egg, but I don't want to stretch this out into so many more meals.

Yeah this is just gonna be a scrambled mess mostly, but we're sticking to our attempt to make a second layer with another, smaller frittata.

Perhaps luxury is overrated. Honestly this tasted nice, all the ingredients were pleasant and went together fine.. its just the unnecessary reworking of a perfectly fine pasta dish into a plate of scraggly bits that makes it a big downgrade. Plus I gotta scrape my pan again.

Super Paper Mario: Saffron & Dyllis Super Show #85: Megaton Dinner

Another strange and challenging one. But as usual I have A CUNNING PLAN. And i'm feeling particularly optimistic about this one in spite of it being something ive never cooked before: SPAM MUSUBI. Hear me out...

OK um first question and its a good start... how do you get this shit out of the can?? it took me 2 knives and some spiking stress levels but i finally managed to get it out in one piece.

I slice it up, season it with soy sauce and teriyaki sauce and fry it. I hope its not a crime to use my tamagoyaki pan for this but its just a really convenient size and shape. And look how good it looks!?

Meanwhile i fluff the steamed sushi rice and season it with salt and a mirin mix.

Now here's a weird tip I read online: wash out the spam container and reuse it to mould the rice!

So for this one im going to try and make like, a spam sandwich with the rice. Considering how hard it was to get the meat out of the can im not looking forward to this. I could always cut a hole in the bottom though I suppose.

it was a little rough but we got it, now I cut a strip of the sushi nori and wrap it around the rice.

now we scavenge some sauce and leftover vegetables and carefully try to cut letters out of them yes thats right we're going ALL IN for this one.

yassss this is working! Now I don't want to ruin it but lets try flipping on its side and saucing it up with something, i've got some mango sriracha handy.

Yesss I think I nailed this one. I love it. And guess what? Turns out spam musubi is delicious!
