Cooking Mama's Cooking Challenge #24: Meatballs

Christ, this one looks like work. What's with all the double cooking? Well here goes.

Grate!

Grated a bit of ginger, this should be enough. I love fresh ginger so i like to go hard on it whenever its in a recipe.

Chop up!

had some spring onions (aka green onion aka scallion) in the freezer i hastily defrosted and tried to chop them even finer. Not massively successful on that front.

Weigh the meat!

heres the weighing it says 500g on the pack so im using half! badda bing! Also the recipe doesn't specify what kind of mince to use, so I'm going with beef. It's a pretty reliable flavour.

Add the ingredients!

So we are adding to beef mince... spring onion, ginger, 1 egg, salt, pepper, sesame oil, breadcrumbs, and cornflour (mama uses potato starch but close enough). Phew! What amounts? I don't know look it up. Im completely guessing wild based on what it looks like in the game.

Knead!

here's everything in there...

Roll meatballs!

if you are wondering why these all seem a step behind its because its just me and im trying to avoid getting RAW MEAT JUICE all over my new phone thanks

Coat!

here you go here is 1 example ball rolled in flour

Deep fry!

These are honestly holding together super well. They look very dry, making me look forward to the next step...

Stew!

More stuff! So in the game you boil them in a huge pot of deep water/stock, but i just think thats crazy. That might just be them reusing graphics? If we are expected to reduce this all to a sauce I'm going to stew them in a relatively small amount of liquid. The game doesn't say this, but according to the wiki page you boil them in dashi stock and not just hot water, so we've got dashi with a small amount of water, tomato ketchup, sugar, soy sauce and vinegar.

Finish!

*****

Oh damn this is so good! As you can see I made spaghetti to go with cuz i love me a bit of carbs (and getting more than 1 meal out of all that work). I could have actually used a tad more water in the end as the sauce thickened up quite remarkably somehow. I don't know if it was the dashi or my bougie organic ketchup but it had this amazing smokey flavour along with everything else. Worlds apart from that chicken in tomato sauce recipe. Also even though it looked like a lot of things to do, it wasn't that tough in the end! Rolling the balls was super quick and everything cooked and held together with no problems. Nice balls, Mama.
